Play time with the camera settings. Yep. I pretty much confirmed that I need a filter. That and figure out the manual focus on this. No worries. It’s just time and patience and doing some research. It’s kinda cool how it zoomed in on my neighbor’s fully grown willow tree which is across the street and at least 100 yards away.
What kind of camera are you using, Jim? I may be looking for a new one to replace the Nikon, but I want something that’s fairly user friendly, is compact, and doesn’t require me to carry around a bunch of different lenses.

a CoolPix P900 just like yours. I’ve been changing the settings right and left on it to see what works best. I intend on leaving my full frame at home when I go to Germany in November.

Mine is a Coolpix B700. No matter what I do with the settings, everything has a blue tinge. For some pictures, that works out well, but mostly it doesn’t. I think it probably needs adjustment, but if I have to pay for repairs, I’d just as soon invest in a different camera.

have you reset all settings?

Yes, I did, back to factory settings, supposedly (twice). When that didn’t work, I took the battery out for several days, hoping that would reset everything. That didn’t work, either. I’ve checked the white balance on every single scene and user setting, and everything appears to be fine – until I actually take a picture. I think the camera is messed up.

I think you’re right. I did a Google search on the blue tinting for Nikons and it “may” be a defective sensor that would need replaced.
I did find a pretty cool travel camera tho. it was a PANASONIC LUMIX FZ1000. it has a 25 – 600 Leica lens. You can find it on Amazon starting at $497.00. There are a number of others out there too so you can leave your big camera and lenses at home.

Thanks, Jim. A defective sensor shouldn’t be too hard, or too costly, to fix. Perhaps I’ll take the Nikon to the shop and see what they can do.
I also saw that Panasonic Lumix. Right now, I don’t have the cash, but maybe soon. We’ll see.

Nice shots Jim! Next time there is a full moon, if you have a tripod, take some shots. You will be amazed. Maybe you can find that american flag up there 😉

It’s a standard nylon flag according to NASA. it will be faded white by UV a long time ago.

It’s still a flag, a white flag if it is there… 😛

It’s there. nothing is there to destroy it unless a meteor or something should hit it.

Thanks Navy. I’m finding different camera settings via Google and I’m trying them.
