I was AWOL yesterday and it shows.  The best thing about today thus far is it’s the end of the work week.  Woo hoo!  Let’s get er done!

1. I picked up a new mobile phone and it was one problem after another setting it up.  Of course my provider was of zero help, so I took a gamble and made a run to the Apple Store at the MOA.  It was “Sure, no problem.  We can get you in to see someone in 15 minutes.”  It was more like 20 minutes waiting but guy who took care of me was a friggen genius solving one problem after another.  At the end of the day, all was well with my universe.  That’s why I buy Apple products.  Their store is nearby, they stand by their products, and their customer service at the store is second to none.  I’m sure their are horror stories out their but I’ve always been taken care of by that store.

2. It’s brrrrrrrr! out there.  No, you don’t want to know the actual temp.  Let’s just say it’s a single digit on the “F” scale.  Yeh that’s cold.  Hey!  It’s central Minnesota.  Where men are men and women are saying “Turn that damn thermostat up!”  Momma would have said “Put a sweater on if you’re cold.”  I tried that once.  It’s best you don’t know the end result of that ill thought out remark.

3. I thought the reflect of my desk lamp on my window was interesting.  Maybe it’s just me.

4. It’s a bread baking Saturday.  Maybe I’ll do some buried pork chops while I’m at it since this cold front won’t move out until Sunday or Monday.

5. I’m going to get my initial buy of garden seeds this weekend.  Yes, I have my hopes up but I know it’s too early right now given this recent cold front and given it’s not warming up early like it did last year.  We’ll keep our fingers crossed anyway and keep our hopes up.  Spring officially starts March 20th and that’s right around the corner.

There ya have it.  Feel free to comment and/or wave a vigorous “HOWDY!” as you pass thru.

    1. nothing right now. the nice weather we had changed to an Arctic cold front and all of the soil that I had turned has refrozen. I have a couple leftover Yukon Gold potatoes that are going to seed and I thought the gummys and I could do a 4th grade science experiment to see if we could get them to grow in water. I figure if I can get three weeks of them sprouting in water then maybe the weather will change enough to where I can transplant them outside later on when everything thaws. it’s worth the gamble I think.

  7. Sounds like my parents in Winter just wear extra stuff as they have their heating set at a lower temperature to save money 😊 it was always freezing cold .

  8. I like Apple products too, especially their service. Nice to deal with a human being.
    I was thinking of planting some potato eyes to get a start. I would imagine they would be alright if there’s a cold spell and you just might get one early crop before you can plant the rest of the seeds. It also enriches the soil. What do you think?

    1. it depends on how cold the soil is but I think if you can build mounds and use some black plastic to help absorb the sun rays you may be able to give it a go. I was thinking about it too since I have a couple Yukon Gold potatoes going to seed but it’s too cold outside right now for us.

      2. you can always cut them up and insert some toothpicks or bamboo skewers and soak them in a Mason jar for now. you can always plant them later. I’m thinking along those lines right now and am holding for now.

      4. yanno, you could also get some landscape cloth from the Home Depot or the Lowes and use that to wrap the mounds. it’s black so it will absorb heat plus water will pass right thru.

  9. I am basking in some warm sunny days with gorgeous blue skies and yesterday I picked my first ripe tomato out of the garden . I also have two little guavas on the tree I planted last year. I am so excited !
    There are little limes on the tree I bought last week but you will have to read that blog to see them.

    Did you take a picture of the desk lamp reflection ??
