      • You saw the house? Fantastic! Oh, the houses in New Orleans! Just beautiful! How about the ones they call “Shotgun house”?

A “shotgun house” is a narrow rectangular domestic residence, usually no more than 12 feet (3.5 m) wide, with rooms arranged one behind the other and doors at each end of the house. It was the most popular style of house in the Southern United States from the end of the American Civil War (1861–65), through the 1920s. Fantastic, huh?

  1. Been planning a trip to New Orleans myself. Spring would be a good time, before it gets too hot. Just make sure you steer clear of Mardi Gras (unless that’s your thing, in which case ignore what I said!). Have you ever been?
